The Authors Frances Kunreuther directs the Building Movement Project (www.buildingmovement.org),which works to strengthen U.S. nonprofits as sites of democratic practice and advance ways the nonprofit sector can build movement for progressive social change. Frances is also a senior fellow at the Research Center for Leadership and Action at NYU. She has written numerous articles and is also the co-author of From the Ground Up: Grassroots Organizations Making Social Change (Cornell, 2006). Frances was a fellow at the Hauser Center for Nonprofit Organizations at Harvard University for five years after heading the Hetrick-Martin Institute for lesbian and gay youth. She has worked with immigrants, homeless families, domestic violence and sexual assault survivors, and substance users during her thirty years in the nonprofit sector. Helen Kim is an organizational development consultant, leadership trainer and coach with eighteen years of experience in working with social change organizations and leaders in the US and Korea. She has facilitated many regional, national, and international convenings on social justice movement building strategies and supporting the next generation of nonprofit leaders. Helen is a trainer for Rockwood Leadership Institute, consultant member with French American Charitable Trust, and an international advisory group member for Association for Women’s Rights in Development, and has taught at the San Francisco State University Graduate School of Social Work. Prior to her consultant work, Helen worked as a community organizer for Asian Immigrant Women Advocates, where she focused on immigrant and worker rights and environmental justice issues. She emigrated from Korea when she was twelve years old and attended Carleton College and the University of Minnesota Law Center. Helen aspires to live and work with generosity of spirit and passion for justice. Robby Rodriguez is originally from Southern California by way of Tucson, Arizona. He is the Director of the SouthWest Organizing Project (SWOP) (www.swop.net). As a Cornell undergraduate student, he interned with SWOP during the summer of 1996. After becoming a full-time organizer with SWOP in 1997, he has helped to organize New Mexico communities around issues of youth criminalization, environmental, economic and social justice. He is currently a member of the Corrales Air Quality Task Force and past chair of the Youth Leadership Development Campaign of the Southwest Network for Environmental and Economic Justice (SNEEJ). Robby has also participated in the movement for social justice at the regional, national and international level by representing SWOP and the SNEEJ at various conferences and meetings and by participating in and conducting trainings throughout the United States and internationally.
